It would be fair to say that there are few Alfa Romeo workshops in the world with the rallying heritage that Avanti has. With over 30 years preparing, servicing and competing in Alfa Romeos, Avanti can provide unrivalled support for the Alfa enthusiast looking to get the most out of their particular car whether  it be a 105 , Alfetta or the mighty Montreal. Avanti’s experience is just as easily applied to racing or fast road cars and with our vast experience  we will no doubt find a solution to your requests.

Competition History

Even with modern  technology it would would take a lot of space to table all of Avanti’s competition experience and successes. With over 100 starts in international and national events and countless state rallies (not to mention circuit events and  rallysprints)  Avanti’s motorsport preparation is second to none and our finish rate is calculated to be in the 97% range. Here is a  brief overview  of our international event success -

Targa Tasmania

With  only one mechanical DNF from18 starts Avanti has an enviable reputation in this iconic event . We have campaigned , Gulia Supers, 105′s, a Montreal and the awesome Francis GTV6 in Tasmania and all of our clients have enjoyed rock solid reliability.

Classic Adelaide

A happy hunting ground for Avanti crews over the years Classic Adelaide saw the emergence of the Alfa Romeo Montreal as an unlikely outright contender against much more powerful machines.  Fifth outright in 1997 , with a puncture saw a hint of what was to come with the Montreal of Anderson and Darch a constant podium threat with third outright in three consecutive year being the Montreal’s high water mark. The Lew Alfetta 2.0l and the 105 ‘s of Mel Brookman and Sam Savas  also saw plenty of action in this event with Avanti’s trademark reliability on display at all times. The Avanti Gulia Super also saw plenty of action at Classic Adelaide being piloted by a who’s who of Australian Rallying (and TV’s Glenn Ridge) and finished in every outing – in fact that little car is worthy of a webite of it’s own! Our finish rate in Classic Adelaide ,100%!!!

London to Sydney

This ultra endurance rally in 1993 saw the debut of the amazing little Avanti Gulia Super . The team finished 11th outright having run as high as 7th . The vehicle was in it’s element in the more difficult stages in Australia setting a string of top five times.  The re-running of the event in 2000 saw the car line up  as a member of the official Alfa team, Scuderia del Portello. Unfortunately  a first day indiscretion put the team behind the eight ball. A sprint from the rear of the field to the top twenty ended in another in discretion ( crash). The team finished the event despite Richard’s attraction to the scenery.

The PNG Sarfari

This incredibly difficult  event was first attempted in the Alfetta 1.8 in 1991 and despite the car being set up for sprint events the crew placed 5th outright and 2nd in class. Spurred on by their success and now armed with the endurance spec Gulia Super Richard and Craig Lee took an unexpected victory over a determined Murray Coote.  Coote  is still recovering! 1994 saw a repeat victory for the Avanti crew complete with TV interviews and rockstar treatment.


Round Australia Mobil 1 Trial

This legendary 21 day event saw the debut of the now infamous Avanti Alfa Romeo 75 in 1995. Unkindly considered “least likely to finish” by some competitors the 75 amazed all with it’s speed and reliability. An incredible 10th outright and 3rd two wheel drive  silenced the critics and furthered Avanti’s reputation as a leader in endurance rally car preparation . Richard’s driving may have helped a little.
